Visitors attracted to the Lake District for the walking and hiking the Lakeland fells and valleys have an excellent base in The Old Homestead. The property is located at the head of the Vale of Lorton - one of the prettiest valleys within the Lake District.
There are some fine walks and rambles direct from the door of the B&B so you can leave the car in the private car park at the property and head out to explore the Northern lakes.
There are a range of walks to suit walkers of all abilities. The lakes of Crummock Water, Buttermere, Loweswater, Bassenthwaite and Derwentwater are all within 10 miles. These offer gentle walks along the shores, many suitable for disabled visitors, as well as some of the best high-level routes in The Lakes National Park.
Alternatively it is a short drive to some of the most famous Lake District walks - Great Gable, Skiddaw, Helvellyn, Blencathra, High Spy and the Scafell range.
Drive down Lorton valley, past the wonderful views of Crummock Water and Buttermere, over the dramatic Honister pass and drop into Borrowdale valley for access to the Borrowdale fells.
